I used to have a blog. It was a lovely little blog and I enjoyed it. Then Facebook came along and I got lazy and stopped posting on my blog, using Facebook as a blog. Which was fine for a while, but then it wasn’t. I have wanted to get this new blog up and running for oh, maybe a year now. I designed it and everything. And it has taken me a year to do the first post. I am finally so sick of procrastinating, torturing myself, THINKING about what the perfect post would be….I just don’t care anymore.
I’m just going to start right here and now.
Finally.
I played in the studio last week and created an altered book for my friend, Susie’s 60th birthday. I took a sweet pocket size French-English vintage dictionary, and made her an altered book that commemorated our shared family’s trip together in Paris 10 years ago.
My favorite part of making these books: cutting out the reliquary type of niche in the book and making a “shadowbox” within the book. Vintage Eiffel Tower postcard, vintage bakelite heart, cheesy 99 cent Goodwill Frame aged/ “UGED” using the Michael De Meng technique of aging/antiquing anything at all.
Wow.
That wasn’t so bad. THAT is what I have been agonizing over????
It was actually pretty fun. Really fun.
I think I’m hooked. All or nothing. Here we go.
Welcome back to blogland.
cool…keep going!
Thanks Greg!!! OXo
Hi Stacey. Nice to see you here again. Susie will love her book, I’m sure. And I enjoyed seeing it. Welcome back!
Leslie,
You are my rock star artist and blogger- I am always so inspired by you!
The facebook connection = I found your blog via my friend Lori Landau. Love the blog post and the concept of the altered book. Thanks for sharing =)
Lori is the best! Thank you for visiting Lori!!
Good for you! So much of life is about just starting. I need to remind myself of that message — think I’ll write a blog entry 🙂
Yes, Debbie-please do!!!
Mid-way down the page I began to cry. Lucky pal to travel together with kids getting an intricately wrought love bomb for her significant birthday….then you distracted me with the wigged starlet.
So…I took the ride. And loved every minute of it. You are certainly worth the wait. Does this mean you will be jumping in to the pool with the other ‘Out of the Mouths of Babes’ guest bloggers soon? Congratulations on this beautiful site. xooxox S
Suzi,
Omg, thank you thank you, this means a lot to me!! And why yes, I would love to jump into the pool! Thank you…Oxo
more please
Yes Stahlene-I’ll get right on it!
hey..way to go!
keep having fun…
Love your creativity and just jumping in. (We spend far too much time worry about perfection, don’t we?) I have been collecting random old books thinking that one day I’d maybe do something like this. I can’t imagine I could do as good of a job as you have, but I may as well jump in!
Very inspiring!
Emily
Emily, thank you so much, I hear you do have some wonderful collections!! Just jump right in anywhere!!
Aloha,
Your brother sent me here, we’ve worked together on weddings. I love that guy. This book is such a gift! Love the details! I just started working on my own art journal after a four year break. I have the opposite problem too much blogging and not enough painting and writing. Can’t wait to follow along!
Two things. Susie is one lucky woman to have you for a friend. And second, I am so glad I discovered this blog!
Thank you Marmeladegypsy!
